Meditation with Toby this week: Risk, safety, shadow!

Finding Freedom From What Holds You Back in Life: Practical meditations & techniques for working with your shadow-self

Overview: Our shadow is the hidden part of self that has been repressed & lies hidden but active within our subconscious mind. It has elements in it that are both ‘negative’ & ‘positive’.

In its lower expression, our shadow secretly steals our energy, sabotaging our ability to manifest success, happiness, stability & peace in our mind & life.

Our shadow also contains a ‘bright’ dimension, which is that part of our repressed unconscious that contains our greatest strengths and potential. Working with our bright shadow helps us to awaken this hidden potential, bringing it out into our conscious awareness so that we can develop & use it fully.

This half-day workshop session is an introduction to what the shadow is, as well as how you can begin working with it in meditation & in your daily life in a practical way.

The RESULTS that you can expect to gain from engaging in this workshop are:

  • The ability to self-heal parts of your psyche that are in pain and in need care and attention
  • A greater feeling of overall wholeness and wellbeing
  • More physical, mental and spiritual energy in your daily life

Workshop Structure:

Each of the three hours of the workshop will contain a 15minute meditation, plus a talk and explanation of the concepts and methods involved.

Hour 1 – The shadow-self, what it is, how to spot it within you and how to start positively working with it in meditation and in daily life.

Hour 2 – The dark side of the shadow; Practical methods for contacting, releasing and re-directing the negative energy of your shadow -self

Hour 3 – The bright side of your shadow; Practical methods for seeing, contacting and releasing your hidden potential and abilities that have been pushed into your unconscious. Time for Q&A.

In addition the workshop itself you will also receive:

  • Full MP3 recordings of the workshop meditations and talks
  • Three short (10-15mins) guided shadow meditation recordings for you to use in order to help you integrate shadow work into your own daily practice.

Integral meditation & mindful walking deep dive half day retreat

About these sessions: These three-hour meditation ‘mini-retreats’ are a chance to go into much deeper meditation states than you would be able to in your own personal daily practice, or even if you came to a one hour class. Using sitting meditation methods in combination with breathing techniques, mindful walking practice & gentle stretching/mobility exercises Toby will guide you into deep meditation flow states that:

  • Create the experience of a calm, unified, harmonized, resilient body, mind & heart
  • Help you access a type of breathing concentration known in some traditions as ‘the beautiful breathing’, where a gentle mental & physical bliss is experienced that releases stress & builds inner strength.
  • Will help sustain & deepen your daily meditation practice after leaving.

The retreat is broken up into three 45-50minute sessions over the three hours, with short breaks in between.

The techniques used will be acceptable to people of all religious (& secular) worldviews, & will be simple enough for beginners to participate without feeling lost or uncomfortable.

  • Written articles & information regarding the sitting, walking & mindful movement techniques used.

About the workshop:
Mental resilience is the capacity to remain actively aware, creatively productive, constantly learning, happy and effective in life and at work. This is also and particularly when faced with pressure and stress both within our mind and from our external environment. This is an experiential course about how you can develop your mental resilience through practical meditation and mindfulness techniques.

The workshop explores the development of mindful resilience using four main specific meditation and mindfulness techniques:
Mindful Resilience Practice 1: Understanding the different levels of mindful resilience and tapping into the inner resilience that you already have (but may not be leveraging effectively upon).
Mindful Resilience Practice 2: Making relaxation a dynamic strength that you can use to combat stress and tension and stay strong under pressure.
Mindful Resilience Practice 3: Creating a resilient inner dialogue with yourself through mindfulness
Mindful Resilience Practice 4: Developing mindful resilience arising from stillness and heightened creativity

Inner Peace, Inner Power – An Introduction to Integral & Engaged Meditation Practice

Start date: March 6-7th 2018

This six-week course with Toby will introduce you to six different meditation practices that will help you to experience all the benefits mentioned above, with a relatively small (5-10mins) daily time commitment. This course teaches integral meditation in the sense that it draws off both ancient meditation techniques found in the worlds wisdom traditions, in combination with techniques related to contemporary psychology, neuro-psychology and philosophy.

It teaches engaged meditation in the sense that it includes both formal sitting practices in combination with how to practice them informally during your daily life.

About the teacher, Toby Ouvry

Toby is a mindfulness teacher and trainer, and the author of the book ‘Engaged Mindfulness – What mindfulness is and how we can apply it to our daily lives’.
