Overview: This meditation course combines Zen beginners mind practice with circulating energy through the ‘microcosmic orbit,’ a traditional Qi gong meditation for building health and energy

Traditional Zen ‘beginners mind’ practice develops our capacity to:

  • Approach each moment without judgment or expectation
  • Cultivate an approach of wise non‑striving to our life challenges
  • Adopt a body posture and habit of breathingthat anchors awareness and harmonizes our body-mind
  • Find enlightenment in the ordinary and the everyday.
  • Accept change and transience, fostering greater freedom from attachment.
  • Build steady inner discipline and grounded simplicity
  • Unify our meditation practice with our daily actions
  • Experience reality directly, beyond the filter of intellectual analysis

Microcosmic Orbit Meditation is a Taoist energy practice that circulates Qi, or subtle life-force through two key meridians—the Governor and Conception Vessels—to enhance vitality, regulate the nervous system, and build deep energetic resilience. This method helps us build capacity for:

  • Nervous System Regulation – The orbit calms the autonomic nervous system, shifting the body from stress to relaxation, enhancing recovery and resilience
  • Qi Storage and Redistribution – Surplus energy is stored in the belly region and redistributed to areas of deficiency, promoting systemic balance
  • Immune and Circulatory Support – Improved energy flow supports circulation, detoxification, and immune function, making the body more resistant to illness and fatigue
  • Emotional Stability – By harmonizing internal energy, the practice reduces anxiety, enhances mood, and fosters grounded presence—key traits of resilient individuals

In this course you will learn to combine these two techniques in an integrated, balanced way that gives you the benefits of both methods, plus the ‘1+1=3’ cross-fertilization effect that comes from putting them together.

Each week there is a one-hour session (can be participated in on Tuesday, Wednesday, online or via recording) that explores a different aspect of these meditations in a practical, easy to understand manner.

Tues 24th, Weds 25th February, Class 6 – Listening & attentional resilience

Tues 3rd, Weds 4th March, Class 7 – Clarity, seeing & energized witnessing

Tues 10th, Weds 11th March, Class 8 – Maturity & indomitability; becoming an adult beginner

Tues 17th, Weds 18th March, Class – Spring Equinox balancing & renewing meditation (Past & healing focus)

Tues 24th, Weds 25th March, Class 9 – Integration session

About the teacher:  Toby is a meditation teacher, the founder of Integral Meditation Asia.
